10/21（日）、横浜市歴史博物館🔗にて第3回3D計測ワークショップとしてCloudCompare🔗を利用して3Dモデルの展開図・断面図などを作成する手順についてのハンズオンを行ないました。なかなか複雑なテーマかつ準備・説明がうまくなかった部分もあったかと思いますが、参加者のみなさんには10時～16時までみっちり実習に打ち込んでいただき、それなりに理解をいただけたのではないかと思います。3D計測ワークショップは引き続き、写真計測、3Dデータの利活用などをテーマに適宜開催したいと思います。また主催・共催したいというお申し出、大歓迎です。できり限りの範囲でご協力させていただきます。

さてワークショップの告知をTwitter上で行なったところ、以下のようなやり取りを経て、「CloudCompareの日本語化やるなら一緒にやろう!」という呼びかけをいただきました。で、考古学・文化財関係コミュニティの方に投げたところ「じゃあ、やろう」となりまして… 有志でボチボチはじめます。詳しくは11/23～25に奈良で開催されるこちら🔗でお話しさせていただく機会があるかと。興味関心のある方は、このブログでもTwitterのDMにでもレスつけてください。

For basic use, i.e. browse, resize & remesh, rotate & transform, shading, profile and contour, as well as minimum image analyses, combo of MeshLab & CloudCompare is nearly perfect, I guess. Only difficulty is that all menu is in English. It would be problem with you 😉

I understand the pain of trying to work with software that’s not in your native language.
Not fun at all 😦
Thus, the need for of helpful workshops to make the pain as bearable as possible 🙂

Actually what I will give in a workshop is only very very basic procedure. But it will be breakthrough to understand hoe software works. And once you get it, you not have to read manuals securely again, I guess.

It’s possible to add translations for the interface. A Japanese 🇯🇵 translation would be most welcome!

The 3rd 3D measurement workshop has been done on 21 October. We had 22 participants. All they are eager to learn basic operation of CloudCompare🔗, tackling somehow complicated procedures for 5 hours! I hope they got basic understanding and skill for . Meantime, there were chatting as above, when I posted an announcement on Twitter. I cast @asmaloney ‘s call for contribution to my 3D enthusiastic colleagues, then got positive responses. Now we, archaeo-CRM-museum community in Japan, kick off the translation of CloudCompare UI into Japanese. I hope this will be great support for those who are keen to learn and to work on 3D measurement and modelling in Japan.
