The Soan Valley is the one of most well-known archaeological field in research history of Palaeolithic study in Asia. However, this fascinated field is not approached by researchers since ’80s. We, Pakistan-Japan Archaeological Mission (PJAM), have revisited localities described in renowned publication by de Terra and Patterson (1939) and following reports for acquiring accurate coordinates and taking samples. Establishing chrono-stratigraphy for revealing palaeoenvironment, geomorphology and human evolution from the early to the late Pleistocene is majour subject of the project.

パキスタン北部、ソアン川流域はアジアにおける旧石器時代研究の学史においてもっとも著名なフィールドのひとつである。しかしながら、1980年代以降、この地での本格的な調査は行われていない。私たち日本・パキスタン考古学共同調査は、学史に名を刻むde Terra and Patterson (1939) 『氷河時代と人類文化の研究』および後続の報告書に記載された地点を再訪し、正確な位置座標を記録するとともに、分析試料の採集を行なっている。前期更新世（258万年前以降）～後期更新世（1万1千7百年前まで）の古環境、地形発達史、および人類の変遷を解明するための年代層序を確立することがプロジェクトの重要な課題です。
